This feminine Edwardian brooch features a deep purple synthetic sapphire set into 10K yellow gold. The delicate gold filigree work adds to the character of the piece. A fabulous pin for all occasions!
Sapphire is one of the “big three” gemstone – ruby, sapphire, and emerald – that have been coveted throughout the ages. Sapphire is commonly associated with royalty and romance, and its name derives from the Greek word “saphheiros” which most likely referred to lapis lazuli. Ancient royals were convinced that sapphire guarded the wearer against envy and harm, while clergymen wore them to symbolize heaven.

The brooch is in very good antique condition. The surface of the gold has fine lines and marks, typical of antique jewelry, but nothing noticeable or visible. The sapphire has fine nicks on the girdle under magnification but no significant chips or cracks. The pin’s clasp and hinge are fully functional and do not stick. The clasp is stamped 10K, and a GIA Graduate Gemologist tested the sapphire.
The brooch measures 1-1/4″ long and 1/2″ wide and weighs 2.00 grams. The box is for display only.
