Description
Purchased from a vendor in Mo’orea, French Polynesia, this gorgeous green Tahitian pearl and 14K white gold cultured pearl pendant is the epitome of simple elegance. The semi-baroque cultured pearl was purchased directly from the pearl farm and set by local jewelers. The lustrous pearl displays an intense green overtone that makes Tahitian pearl famous. The gleaming white gold offers a beautiful contrast to the glowing pearl and would make a wonderful gift for June babies or any pearl lover! The pictures do not do this pendant justice!
Pearls have an ancient history, first mentioned in 2,206 BCE by a Chinese writer, these organic gemstones are created by a living creature and not in the Earth. With their origins in water, pearls can be from freshwater and saltwater mollusks and have a strong association with myths and lore involving water. The silky orient and luster of pearls often give them a glow which many cultures associate with the moon. Victorians thought pearls represented purity, the Japanese thought they were mermaid’s tears, and Persians believed they formed when a rainbow met the Earth. Cleopatra famously dissolved a giant pearl into her wine, and then consumed it. She did this to prove to Marc Anthony that she could spend an entire population’s riches in one dinner.
The pearl is a grade B+, which means it has some surface blemishes, but it has an overall high luster. The cultured pearl was measured as a 10mm semi-baroque, and the gold bail is stamped 375 for 9K white gold. Pearl comes with original box and certificate of authenticity. The white gold chain is stamped 14K ITALY and measures 18″ in length.
