Description
Simple and elegant, this vintage 1930s solitaire amethyst ring is prong set into 10K yellow gold. The prong set vibrant amethyst pops against the shiny gold. This ring is timeless with minimal design and is excellent for many different styles and occasions!
The word amethyst comes from ancient Greece and stems from two words, a- (“not”) and methystos (“intoxicated”). The Greeks believed wearing amethyst prevented you from drunkenness and, therefore, back a favorite for Bacchus – the god of wine. In Victorian times, amethyst symbolized passionate love and devotion. Amethyst is February’s birthstone.
The ring is in very good vintage condition with minimal signs of wear. The surface of the quartz and gold shows light signs of wear, fine lines, and marks, typical of vintage pieces. There are tiny chips along the girdle under magnification. The amethyst is secure in the mounting, and the prongs are not too worn. The inside of the shank is stamped with 10K and an unknown maker’s mark.
The ring is a size 6, weighs 2.13 grams, and can be sized. The stone measures 6 mm x 6 mm x 3.5 mm and weighs 0.60 carats. The box is for display only.
