Description
This stunning Bohemian garnet necklace is crafted with 47 rose-cut pyrope garnets set into 900 gold-washed silver. The cluster of garnets catches the sunlight and glows from within while contrasting nicely with the metal. Made in the 1950s, this gorgeous garnet necklace is an excellent piece for January babies or garnet lovers!
Bohemian garnets came from Bohemia’s hills in Czechoslovakia and were very popular with the European upper-class from the 1820s to the 1920s. Michelle Obama purchased a bohemian garnet brooch during her last visit to Prague. To learn more about Bohemian garnets, read our blog post here:
The necklace is in very good to excellent condition with minor signs of wear. The garnets are in very good condition, with no significant chips or cracks, and secure in the mounting. The garnets have a few tiny nicks on their facet junctions under magnification. The gold-washed metal shows minor signs of wear with fine lines and marks, but nothing noticeable. The bail is stamped 900, and the chain is not original to the piece but matches nicely. A GIA Graduate Gemologist tested the garnets.
The necklace measures 18″ in length, and the pendant is 1-1/4″ tall and 5/8″ wide and weighs 5.61 grams. The box is for display only.
