These adorable earrings were crafted in Ireland in the year 1987 and are an excellent example of traditional Irish jewelry design. The Claddagh is steeped in history and most commonly is worn on an engagement or wedding ring. Rendered from 9K yellow gold, the earrings would make a great gift for someone you love!
The Claddagh ring originated in the 17th century in the small Irish fishing village of Claddagh. The hands represent friendship, the heart represents love, and the crown represents loyalty. This creates the perfect symbol to be used as friendship, engagement, and wedding ring for centuries. It is a famous modern symbol of Irish identity, and the design is credited to Richard Joyce.
The earrings are in very good vintage condition with minimal signs of wear. The surface of the gold has fine lines and marks, but nothing noticeable or obvious. They are stamped with multiple hallmarks: worn mark for Dublin assay, the date letter B for 1987, 9, and 375 for 9K. The backs are 14K yellow gold and are marked.
The earrings measure 3/8″ tall and wide and weigh 0.90 grams. The box is not included.
