Large, statement earrings from the 1980s are always in fashion, and these textured sterling silver Taxco stud earrings certainly draw attention. The pierced earrings are great for all ages and styles!
Taxco silver is highly coveted and collectible, with a high quality of craftsmanship in each piece. Taxco is a tiny town between Acapulco and Mexico City with a long mining history. In the late 1920s, a highway finally extended to Taxco, which enabled William Spratling, a gentleman from the US, to find the town and discover the potential in the artisan community. He invited great metalsmiths to join him in apprenticing young artists, and the world took notice of the divine craftsmanship in the jewelry produced.

The earrings are in very good vintage condition with minimal signs of wear. There are fine lines and marks on the surface of the silver, which are not noticeable or distracting. The silver has a light layer of patina which can be polished upon request. The butterfly backs are fully functional and secure the earrings to the ear. The backs are stamped MEXICO TC-140 925 and a worn eagle mark. 925 stands for sterling silver, and TC-140 is the 140th artist to register in Taxco with the initial C.
The earrings measure 1-1/16″ tall and wide and weigh 17.50 grams. The box is for display only.
