These beautiful earrings are set with vibrant blue turquoise in sterling silver. The Greek cross design is simple and elegant. A great pair of vintage earrings, perfect to add to or start your turquoise collection!
The word turquoise comes from the 17th-century French word “turquois,” meaning Turkish, the major exporter of turquoise to Europe. Turquoise was first mined over 5000 years ago in the Sinai Peninsula and adorned ancient Egyptian jewelry and clothing. Ancient Persians have been mining turquoise for 2000 years and used it to cap their palace domes to symbolize heaven on Earth. Pre-Columbian Native Americans mined turquoise from Central Mexico to the southwestern US. To learn more, read our blog post here:
The earrings are in very good vintage condition with minor signs of wear. The turquoise is not chipped or cracked and is secure in the setting. The silver has a light layer of patina which can be polished upon request. The backs are stamped PB (maker’s mark) and 925 (92.5% silver, or sterling silver). The ear wires are slightly different lengths.
