Produced in the 1880s, this beautiful Scottish pebble brooch features a large, uniquely shaped, translucent, orange-banded agate set in silver. The engraved silver adds more detail to this stunning late-Victorian pin.

Scottish pebble jewelry was trendy during the Victorian era. It was constructed from natural agates and granites found along roads, streambeds, and shorelines. Pieces are typically adorned with Scottish symbols and themes, such as thistles, stags, and Celtic crosses. When Queen Victoria purchased Balmoral Castle in Scotland, along with the popularity of Sir Walter Scott's novels, interest in all things Scottish exploded.

The brooch is in good antique condition with some noticeable signs of wear. The agate has a large chip on the back and a fine line extending from the bezel. These seem stable for now, but dropping or whacking the brooch may cause the agate to break. The silver has a moderate patina layer that can be polished upon request. The pin is not stamped or marked.

The brooch measures 1 1/2" tall and 2" wide and weighs 13.72 grams. The box is for display only.
