Introducing a rare 1892 Whitehead & Hoag Co. Fraternal Oddfellows Handshake Secret Society Pin, crafted from exquisite celluloid and copper. This historical artifact embodies the rich tradition of secret societies, featuring intricate detailing and a symbol of brotherhood that captivates collectors of unique vintage memorabilia. Ideal for aficionados of fraternal history and antique jewelry enthusiasts alike.

The Whitehead & Hoag Company, founded in 1892 in Newark, New Jersey, by Benjamin S. Whitehead and Chester R. Hoag, became a major manufacturer of advertising novelties, particularly buttons, badges, and medals. They initially specialized in ribbon badges and later introduced the pin-back button, which they patented. The company grew rapidly, employing over 400 workers during World War II and eventually becoming the world's largest manufacturer of quality buttons.

The brooch is in good antique condition with some signs of wear. There are a few small areas of darkening on the back and along the gold-plated frame. The back is stamped Whitehead & Hoag Co. Newark, NJ PAT OCT 1892.

The pin measures 1 3/8" tall and 3" wide, weighing 7.74 grams. The box is for display only.
