This lovely pottery brooch from the early 1900s was handcrafted in the famous Delft, Netherlands. The white pottery is hand-painted with traditional blue paint and depicts a windmill. The painting is framed with intricate silver metalwork. It's a lovely antique brooch to add to your collection!
Delft‘s blue pottery began in the 1500s in Antwerp and, due to conflict, moved to other cities such as Amsterdam, Rotterdam, and Delft. The immensely popular Delftware pottery was the most important source in Europe and continues to be produced today.
The brooch is in very good antique condition with minimal signs of wear. The pottery is not chipped or cracked, and the painting is intact. The silver has a light layer of patina that can be polished upon request. The c-clasp and hinge are fully functional, and the artist signed the back.
The brooch is 1-1/4" tall and wide and weighs 7.25 grams. The box is for display only.
