This is a fabulous vintage 1970s hematite and sterling silver Native American statement cuff. The large hematite cabochon is a sawtooth bezel set into the cuff, formed by three split bands. The typical ropework design around the hematite and along the cuff adds a beautiful design element.

"Black diamond" is a popular trade name for hematite in Alaska during the 1940s. The name hematite is derived from the Greek word haimatites for blood - most likely because hematite dropped into water appears to "bleed."

The cuff is in very good vintage condition with minimal signs of wear. The silver has a moderate layer of patina that can be polished upon request. The bracelet had marks on the back, which were polished off. The hematite is in very good to excellent condition, with no signs of cracks or chips in the stone. Since the unmarked cuff, the silver was tested to be sterling silver.

The bracelet measures 1-1/8" wide and 6.5" long, with a little room for adjustment.
