Crafted in the 1960s, this beautiful vintage ring features an oval-cut, 18-carat smoky quartz. The quartz is prong set into silver with an openwork gallery setting, which allows the light to penetrate the stone and helps it glow. This statement ring is sure to draw many compliments!

Smoky quartz (NOT smoky topaz) is the brown variety of the quartz family and is rarer than rose quartz, amethyst, citrine, and rock crystal. Smoky quartz is Scotland's national gemstone and is also called Cairngorm. Quartz is one of the most common minerals in the Earth‘s crust and has been used for jewelry and art objects since ancient times. The Chinese even used thin slices of smoky quartz as sunglasses in the 12th century!

The ring is in excellent vintage condition with minimal signs of wear. The quartz has fine nicks at the facet junctions visible under magnification but looks clean to the eye. The stone is not chipped, cracked, or loose in the setting and has been examined by a GIA Graduate Gemologist. The silver has a light patina, which can be polished upon request. The shank is stamped SILVER.

The ring is a size 7 and can be sized. The stone measures 24mm x 15mm x 9.4mm and weighs 18 carats, and the ring weighs 7.74 grams. The box is for display only.
