These classic mid-century Matisse clip-on modernist earrings are crafted from copper. The naturalistic, flowing design resembles a plant or flower. A great pair of earrings from the 1960s to add to your collection!
Renoir was founded in 1947, and Matisse Ltd. in 1957, by Jerry Fels, who was heavily influenced by the Arts and Crafts movement. Geometric patterns featuring strips of copper twisted to resemble rope or coils were a favorite among the designers. The company is known for its copper cuffs and hinged bangles, with copper a favored metal for hammering during the Arts and Crafts era. Renoir made copper jewelry until about 1964, so you know each piece is a genuine mid-century modern creation.
The earrings are in very good vintage condition with typical signs of wear. The clips are marked 'MATISSE'.
The earrings measure 1-3/8" tall, 3/4" wide, and weigh 6.00 grams. The box is for display only.
