This beautiful ring from the 1960s is set with a 1.72-carat oval cut lab-created pink sapphire prong set into 10K yellow gold. The Tiffany setting uplifts the gemstone so maximum light can penetrate the lab-created sapphire, making it glow with sunlight. A lovely vintage ring from the mid-20th century to add to your collection!
Sapphire is one of the "big three" gemstones - ruby, sapphire, and emerald - coveted throughout the ages. Sapphire is commonly associated with royalty and romance, and its name derives from the Greek word "saphheiros," which most likely referred to lapis lazuli. Ancient royals were convinced that sapphire guarded the wearer against envy and harm, while clergy members wore them to symbolize heaven.
Synthetic sapphires are REAL gemstones as they are chemically, optically, and physically the same as natural sapphires. The only difference is that synthetics were created in a controlled lab environment, and natural stones are formed during major geological events. The ring is in very good vintage condition with minimal signs of wear. The surface of the gold shows fine lines and marks under magnification, which is typical of vintage jewelry. The lab-created sapphire has a few nicks on the facet junctions and girdle under magnification, but these are not noticeable to the eye. The stone is not chipped or cracked and does not wiggle. The shank is stamped HA? and 10K.
The ring is a size 5 and can be sized. The sapphire measures 8.8 mm x 7 mm x 3.5 mm and weighs 1.72 carats. The ring weighs 1.88 grams, and the box is for display only.
