Crafted in the 1970s, this lovely necklace is adorned with one round Japanese Akoya pearl with a cream overtone. The pearl‘s luster is good, making it glow in the sun and pop against the glistening yellow gold-filled metal and one single-cut diamond. It‘s a beautiful necklace for all ages and styles—perfect for a June baby!

Pearls have an ancient history, first mentioned in 2,206 BCE by a Chinese writer; a living creature, not Earth, created these organic gemstones. With their origins in water, pearls can be from freshwater and saltwater mollusks and are strongly associated with myths and lore involving water. The silky orient and luster of pearls often give them a glow that many cultures associate with the moon. Victorians thought pearls represented purity, the Japanese thought they were mermaids' tears, and Persians believed they formed when a rainbow met the Earth.

The necklace is in very good vintage condition with a few signs of wear. The pearl‘s surface is very nice with a few inclusions, and the luster and orient are good.

The necklace is 18" long, the pendant is 3/4" tall and 1/2" wide, and it weighs 3.59 grams. The box is for display only.
