These fabulous vintage earrings from the 1980s are crafted with glowing orange scarabs set into gold-plated metal. The scarabs are accented with elegant, geometric metalwork. They are very fun and eye-catching statement earrings to add to your collection!
Napoleon‘s late 1700s conquest of Northern Africa sparked a newfound European fascination with Egyptian motifs. Subsequently, the 1920s discovery of Tutankhamun‘s tomb triggered another surge in scarab-themed jewelry. The scarab symbolized rebirth and regeneration, linked to the revered sun god Ra and the sun‘s daily return, and it held profound significance. Egyptians from all walks of life embraced these scarabs as potent amulets, believing in their power to safeguard against malevolence and protect both the wearer and their household.
The earrings are in very good vintage condition with minimal signs of wear on metal and glass surfaces. The glass scarabs are not chipped or scratched, and the metal was tested. There are no marks or stamps on the earrings.
The earrings measure 3-1/4" long and 11/16" wide; they weigh 11.02 grams. The box is for display only.
