Made by artisan silversmiths in Taxco, Mexico, during the 1980s, this sleek black onyx necklace is set in sterling silver. A stunning vintage Taxco piece to add to your collection!
Taxco silver is highly sought after and collectible, known for its high-quality craftsmanship in every piece. Taxco is a small town situated between Acapulco and Mexico City with a rich mining history. In the late 1920s, a highway was finally built to Taxco, allowing William Spratling, an American gentleman, to discover the town and see the potential in its artisan community. He invited skilled metalsmiths to apprentice young artists, and the world began to take notice of the exceptional craftsmanship in the jewelry produced.

The necklace is in excellent vintage condition, with minimal signs of wear. The surface of the silver has fine lines and marks, but they are not noticeable or obvious. The silver has a moderate patina layer that can be polished upon request. The necklace is marked 'TO-77' and 'MEXICO 925'. This stands for the 77th artist with the initial O to register in Taxco.
The necklace is 20" long, the pendant is 1-3/8" tall and 1/2" wide, and it weighs 13.29 grams. The box is for display only.
