This fun vintage necklace and earrings set features large cabochons of green malachite in minimal sterling silver. The dark green malachite pops against the shining silver, and the openwork allows like to peek through the set. Great jewelry set for all occasions!
Malachite is a variety of chalcedony with identifying dark and light green parallel bands of color. The ancient Egyptians used malachite in their jewelry and makeup. In the middle ages, malachite was hung on cribs to protect the children from witchcraft and promote peaceful sleep. It is considered an extra-care gem with extreme heat and chemicals that can damage the surface.
The set is in very good vintage condition with minimal signs of wear. The silver shows signs of a light patina that can be polished upon request. The malachite is not chipped or cracked and is not highly polished. The backs are stamped 925 for sterling silver.
The necklace is 18" long, the pendant measures 1-1/4" tall and 3/4" wide and weighs 9.03 grams. The earrings measure 1-3/4" tall and 3/4" wide and weigh 9.60 grams.
