Description
Beautifully crafted in the early 1920s, this antique camphor glass necklace features delicate sterling silver patterns. This early Jazz-era necklace is etched with a starburst pattern and adorned with a clear rhinestone. It is a very dainty and feminine piece, great for all ages!
Camphor glass jewelry began in the 1880s as Victorian mourning jewelry. Its frosted appearance results from treatment with hydrofluoric acid vapors, which causes the presence of camphor gum, hence the name.
The necklace is in very good antique condition with minor signs of wear. The camphor glass is not chipped or cracked, and the filigree is intact. The center rhinestone has slightly darkened, but the other glass sparkles brightly.
The necklace is 16″ long, the pendant is 2-3/16″ long and weighs 9.21 grams. The box is for display only.
