Description
This sparkly and fun goldstone glass and sterling silver bar pin brooch was crafted in the 1920s. The glass’s lovely orangish-brown color is complimented with millions of glittering copper inclusions that add a vibrant sparkle: a great Art deco era piece to add to your antique collection.
Goldstone is not made of gold and is not a stone but glass filled with copper flecks that create the lovely aventurescence. Aventurine is Italian for “chance,” most likely because it was discovered by accident by an alchemist. Goldstone originated in Europe in Venice’s 17th century and was widely used in the Georgian and Grand Victorian eras.
The brooch is in very good antique condition with minimal signs of wear. The glass and metal have a few fine lines and marks but nothing noticeable or distracting. The silver has a dark layer of patina that can be polished upon request. The brooch is not stamped or marked.
The brooch measures 1-7/8″ long and 5/16″ wide and weighs 5.63 grams. The box is for display only.
