This gorgeous ring from the 1930s is set with two lustrous Japanese Akoya cultured pearls in a Toi et Moi setting. The 5.9mm cultured pearls have a lovely luster that compliments the 10K yellow gold. A beautiful ring for June babies or a loved one!
Toi et Moi is French for “me and you” and describes a bypass ring with two stones prominently displayed. They were common engagement rings in the 19th and 20th centuries, and the two stones symbolize two souls forever intertwined. A very romantic and lovely way to express your love for someone!
Pearls have an ancient history, first mentioned in 2,206 BCE by a Chinese writer; a living creature and not Earth created these organic gemstones. With their origins in water, pearls can be from freshwater and saltwater mollusks and have a strong association with myths and lore involving water. The silky orient and luster of pearls often give them a glow that many cultures associate with the moon. Victorians thought pearls represented purity, the Japanese thought they were mermaid’s tears, and Persians believed they formed when a rainbow met the Earth.
The ring is in very good vintage condition with minimal signs of wear. The pearls have no damage to the nacre or cracks and are secure in their prongs. The gold has fine lines and marks from typical wear but nothing noticeable or obvious. The shank is stamped 10K with a worn maker’s mark, and a GIA Graduate Gemologist examined the pearls.
The ring is a size 5.5 and can be sized. The pearls are 5.9mm, and the ring weighs 3.38 grams. The box is for display only.
