Description
Crafted in the Victorian revival of the 1930s, this gorgeous ring is set with a vibrant 7.12-carat amethyst cabochon in 10K yellow gold and surrounded by imitation seed pearls. The open-backed setting allows for the light to illuminate the stone, making the amethyst glow. A beautiful vintage cocktail ring for February babies!
The word amethyst comes from ancient Greece and stems from two words, a- non, and methystos – intoxicated. The Greeks believed wearing amethyst prevented you from drunkenness and, therefore, back a favorite for Bacchus – the god of wine. In Victorian times, amethyst symbolized passionate love and devotion, and it is the birthstone for February. STS was founded in 1985 in Jaipur, India, by Sunil Agrawal.
The ring is in very good vintage condition with minor signs of wear. The amethyst’s surface shows tiny pits and fine scratches from years of wear, but nothing noticeable or distracting. The imitation pearls are secure in their setting and are not chipped or cracked. A GIA Graduate Gemologist tested all stones. The gold shows fine lines and marks, nothing noticeable or obvious. The band is stamped with the metal’s fineness mark of 10K. The imitation pearls are most likely replacements.
The ring is a size 5.5, can be sized, and weighs 4.72 grams. The amethyst measures 18mm x 13mm x 4.4mm and weighs 7.12 carats. The box is for display only.
