Description
Modernist and elegant, this classic jewelry set from the Renoir Jewelry Co. is rendered from copper with its signature tulip pattern. The necklace and bracelet glisten in the sun, along with the floral motif, make these pieces great for Spring and Summertime!
Renoir was founded in 1947, and Matisse Ltd. in 1957, by Jerry Fels, who was heavily influenced by the Arts and Crafts movement. Geometric patterns with strips of copper twisted to resemble rope or coils were a favorite of the designers at Renoir. The company is most well known for its cuffs and hinged bangles made of copper, a favorite metal to hammer during the Arts and Crafts era. Renoir made copper jewelry until about 1964, so you know each piece is a genuine mid-century modern creation.
The set is in very good vintage condition with minor signs of wear. The surface of the copper has fine lines and marks, typical of vintage pieces, nothing noticeable or distracting. There are areas of dark anodization on the back and in recessed areas on the front. The hook and chain clasp is fully functional and marked RENOIR on the clasps.
The necklace is 15″ or choker length, 3/4″ wide, and weighs 39.99 grams. The bracelet measures 7-1/2″ long, 3/4″ wide, and weighs 20.62 grams.
