Description
This gorgeous ring from the 1960s is set with sparkling marcasites and a yellowish-green Irish connemara marble in 935/925 silver. Marcasite is faceted iron pyrite and once was referred to as “brilliants” in the early 20th century because of how they sparkle in candlelight. A beautiful vintage ring from Ireland to add to your collection!
Connemara marble is found in Galway county Ireland and is a rare, serpentine-rich type of marble. Connemara is the Gaelic word for “inlets for the sea,” an excellent descriptor for the region, which Oscar Wilde described as “savagely beautiful.” The stone has a long history, from the Neolithic people trading and carving the marble. Widely popular for Celtic jewelry, even today, this beautiful gemstone is a unique addition to your jewelry collection!
The ring is in very good vintage condition with minimal signs of wear. There are no missing stones, but a few do have light pitting. The marble and silver have a few fine lines and marks but nothing noticeable. The shank is stamped 935 (93.5% silver), a crowned harp (Irish silver mark), 925, and X (date mark for 1965.) The ring has a moderate patina layer that can be polished upon request.
The ring is a size 8.5 and can be sized. The ring measures 3/4″ tall by 5/8″ wide and weighs 7.14 grams. The box is for display only.
