Description
This beautiful flower ring from the 1970s is set with a natural round-cut emerald in 10K yellow gold. The green 0.09-carat emerald pops against the glistening gold, an excellent gift for a May baby.
Emerald is one of the “big three” gemstones—ruby, sapphire, and emerald—that are the most well-known and sought-after colored gemstones. The word emerald comes from the ancient Greek word “smaragdus.” The first emerald mines were founded around 330 BCE in Egypt and were highly coveted by Cleopatra. Green has long been associated with relaxation, and gemstone cutters still use the emerald’s soothing tone to rest their weary eyes after a long day of faceting.
The ring is in very good vintage condition with minimal signs of wear. The surface of the gold has a few fine lines and marks, but nothing noticeable or obvious. The emerald has a few minor nicks under magnification, but nothing is visible to the eye. The shank is stamped 10K and an unknown maker’s mark.
The ring is a size 6 and can be sized. The ring measures 5/16″ wide and weighs 1.18 grams. The natural emerald measures 3mm x 3mm x 2mm and weighs 0.09 carats. The box is for display only.
