Hand-carved in the 1990s, this Chinese lavender jadeite jade pendant is strung on a lovely vermeil adjustable chain. The light lavender jade is carved into a serpentine dragon motif, a very peaceful and natural design. Jade is treasured partly because of its hardness, making for a very durable piece of jewelry.
Jadeite is highly coveted in Chinese culture and is thought to represent righteousness, beauty, and knowledge. Often referred to as “the stone of heaven” or “yu” (royal gem), wearing jadeite makes the wearer aspire to the highest spiritual level. There is great mystic and depth within the dragon symbol. The pendant is in very good vintage condition with minimal signs of wear. The jadeite jade again is natural and untreated. There are no chips or cracks in the intricate design of the jade. The vermeil shows fine lines and marks on the surface but nothing noticeable or obvious. The clasp is stamped 925 (sterling silver) and SGW (maker’s mark).
The pendant measures 2-1/8″ tall and 1″ wide and weighs 16.68 grams. The chain is 24″ long and can be adjusted to any length below that. The box is for display only.
