Description
This elegant vintage ring features a 0.29-carat grey opal cabochon set in 10K yellow gold. The minimal shank design complements the opal without overwhelming it. The opal displays a vibrant and captivating play-of-color —a perfect Victorian Revival ring for October birthdays.
Contrary to the prevailing myth, opals do not bring bad luck. In fact, they have a rich history of being seen as symbols of good fortune. Opals were documented in Sir Walter Scott’s 1829 novel “Anne of Geierstein,” describing them as stones that changed color in response to the protagonist’s moods. Before this, opals had been regarded as highly auspicious in various cultures, including the belief among ancient Bedouin tribes that opals contained lightning.
The ring is in very good vintage condition with minimal signs of wear. The gold has fine lines and scratches from years of wear; this is typical on vintage jewelry. The shank is stamped 10K. The opal is not crazed or cracked, has no chips, and is natural. The play-of-color is best viewed in the video. The prongs are securely holding the opal. A GIA Graduate Gemologist tested the opal.
The ring is a size 5.5; it can be sized and weighs 1.38 grams. The opal measures 6.5mm x 5.1mm x 1.6mm and weighs 0.29 carats. The box is for display only.
