Description
This fabulous cuff by Renoir from the 1960s has a swirled scroll design with a burnished shadow effect that adds depth to the set. A very simple and striking design set in wonderfully metallic copper. A great cuff for anyone who loves modernist, mid-century modern, or copper jewelry!
Renoir was founded in 1947, and Matisse Ltd. in 1957, by Jerry Fels, and was heavily influenced by the Arts and Crafts movement. The company is most well known for its cuffs and hinged bangles made of copper, a favorite metal to hammer during the Arts and Crafts era. Geometric patterns with strips of copper twisted to resemble rope or coils were a favorite of the designers at Renoir. Renoir only made copper jewelry until about 1964, so you know each piece is a genuine mid-century modern creation.
The bracelet is in very good vintage condition with typical signs of wear. There are fine lines and scratches on the surface of the cuff, but nothing distracting. The cuff is stamped RENOIR.
The cuff measures 6-1/4″ long and 1″ wide and weighs 46.95 grams.
