Description
A great ring for June babies or vintage brides! Crafted in the 1970s, this beautiful ring is set with a single-cut diamond and a 5.4 mm cultured Japanese Akoya pearl that glows against 10K yellow gold. The minimalist, whimsical design gives the ring an elegant feel.
Pearls have an ancient history, first mentioned in 2,206 BCE by a Chinese writer; a living creature and not Earth created these organic gemstones. With their origins in water, pearls can be from freshwater and saltwater mollusks and are strongly associated with myths and lore involving water. The silky orient and luster of pearls often give them a glow that many cultures associate with the moon. Victorians thought pearls represented purity, the Japanese thought they were mermaid’s tears, and Persians believed they formed when a rainbow met the Earth.
The ring is in very good vintage condition with minimal signs of wear. The surface of the gold shows fine lines and marks, but nothing noticeable or visible. The pearl’s nacre is in good condition with no pits and a few light scratches. The orient is good to very good, and the pearl has a slightly pink overtone. The inside of the band is stamped 10K and bi copyright. A GIA Graduate Gemologist examined the pearl, and there is a tiny bit of glue peeking out from the pearl from mounting.
The pearl measures 5.4mm, the head is 3/8″ tall and 1/2″ wide, and the ring weighs 2.10 grams. The ring is a size 6.75 and can be sized. The box is for display only.
