With an ancient history dating back to 2,206 BCE, Pearls are organic gemstones created by living creatures in water. Found in both freshwater and saltwater mollusks, they hold strong associations with myths and water-related lore. Cultures worldwide connect their silky orient and luster to the moon’s glow, attributing diverse meanings such as purity in Victorian times, mermaid tears in Japanese beliefs, and forming from a rainbow meeting the Earth in Persian legends. One famous tale involves Cleopatra impressing Marc Anthony by dissolving a giant pearl in her wine, demonstrating her capacity to consume an entire population’s riches in one dinner.

The earrings are in very good vintage condition. The pearls are drilled, and the holes are visible but aligned, so you do not notice this while wearing the earrings. The pearls were mounted and glued, and some aged glue is noticeable around the cup. The pearls have good luster, acceptable nacre, near round, nicely matched, and light blemished. The earrings are stamped 14K, and the threaded studs come with 14K white gold screw backs.
The pearls measure 8 mm and 8.1 mm, and the diamonds are 3.4 mm and weigh 0.15 carats each. The diamonds are graded G and I color, and VVS2 and VS2 clarity. The earrings weigh 2.60 grams. The box is for display only.
