Description
This beautiful 1990s necklace is set with five sun-spangled amber cabochons in sterling silver. The minimalist design focuses your attention on the glowing amber. It’s a charming vintage amber necklace to add to your collection!
Amber is an organic gemstone and one of the earliest gemstones set into jewelry during the Stone Age. It is fossilized tree sap from ancient trees that is millions of years old, vs. copal, which is immature amber that is only a few thousand years old. Amber is an analgesic, so many ancient teething rings were manufactured from it. Although Baltic amber is the most well-known, the primary source of amber today is the Dominican Republic.
The necklace is in very good vintage condition with typical signs of wear. The silver has a slight patina layer, which can be polished upon request. The amber is natural and was immersed in hot oil to create the sun spangles. The cabochons are firmly set, and there are no signs of chips or cracks. The clasp is stamped 925 (sterling silver) and is fully functional.
The necklace is 17-1/2″ long, 1/2″ wide, and weighs 8.79 grams. The box is for display only.
