Description
This beautiful necklace from the 1990s is set with five sun-spangled amber cabochons in sterling silver. This minimalist design focuses your attention on the glowing amber. A charming vintage amber necklace to add to your collection!
Amber is an organic gemstone and is one of the earliest gemstones set into jewelry during the Stone Age. Amber is fossilized tree sap from ancient trees that is millions of years old vs. copal which is immature amber and is only a few thousand years old. Amber is an analgesic which is why many ancient teething rings were manufactured from amber. Although Baltic amber is the most well known, the major source for amber today is the Dominican Republic.
The necklace is in very good vintage condition with typical signs of wear. The silver has a slight patina layer, which can be polished upon request. The amber is natural and was immersed in hot oil to create the sun-spangles. The cabochons are firmly set, and there are no signs of chips or cracks. The clasp is stamped 925 (sterling silver) and is fully functional.
The necklace is 17-1/2″ long, 1/2″ wide, and weighs 8.79 grams. The box is for display only.
