This lovely lava cameo brooch from the mid-Victorian era depicts a beautiful young woman’s profile gazing to the right. The simple silver frame complements the brown carved lava. A great unisex brooch from the 1880s to add to your collection!
Cameo carving has an ancient history dating back to 3 century BCE Greece. Empress Josephine, Alexander the Great, and Queen Victorian were prominent cameo enthusiasts. The cameo is in very good antique condition with minimal signs of wear. There are no marks or stamps. The lava is not chipped or cracked and is secure in the mounting.
The cameo measures 1-1/8″ tall and 1″ wide and weighs 6.71 grams. The box is for display only.
