Description
Crafted in the 1980s, this exquisite choker necklace showcases a 0.34-carat cabochon pear-cut white opal elegantly nestled in 14K white gold. It is further adorned by a delicate halo of 12 single-cut diamonds. The opal exhibits a mesmerizing interplay of predominantly red and green flashes arranged in pinpoint and harlequin patterns. This enchanting necklace is perfect for those celebrating birthdays in October and April.
Contrary to the prevailing myth, opals are far from symbols of bad luck! The misfortune associated with opals can be traced back to their portrayal in Sir Walter Scott’s 1829 novel, “Anne of Geierstein,” where the gemstone was cast as cursed, tarnishing its reputation. Prior to this literary twist, opals enjoyed a revered status as one of the most auspicious gemstones across various cultures. In fact, some even believed that opals possessed the mystical power of containing lightning within their depths!
The ring is in very good vintage condition with minimal signs of wear. The opal’s surface is not cracked, crazed, or chipped. The diamonds are secure and show no significant signs of wear. The pendant and clasp are stamped 14K. A GIA Graduate Gemologist examined all the gemstones.
The opal measures 9.1mm x 6mm x 1.7mm and weighs 0.34 carats. The diamonds are 1.5mm and weigh 0.12 carats total. The necklace is 16″ long and weighs 3.16 grams.
