Check out this vintage 1960s almandine garnet and sterling silver southwest beaded single-strand necklace. The fabulous, dark purplish-red garnet graduated beads perfectly complement the sleek silver beads. This is a simple and elegant strand for January babies or Valentine's Day!
Almandine is named after Alabanda, an ancient Asian town renowned for fashion and gemstone trading. Ancient Romans loved almandine garnet and set thin layers in rings to show off its beautiful color, and ancient Egyptians loved garnet for inlay work. Almandine is one of the most common and familiar garnets and is the birthstone for January.
The necklace is in very good vintage condition, with minimal wear on the surface of the garnets. The hook clasp is fully functional.
The necklace is 27" long, the beads range from 4-7mm, and it weighs 41.63 grams.
